Lesson 19: Multiplying Fractions
Multiplying fractions is easier than it looks! Just multiply the numerators (top numbers) together and the denominators (bottom numbers) together.
Steps to Multiply Fractions
- Multiply the numerators.
- Multiply the denominators.
- Simplify the resulting fraction if possible.
Example
2/3 × 3/4 = (2 × 3) / (3 × 4) = 6/12 ? Simplify ? 1/2
1/2 × 4/5 = 4/10 ? Simplify ? 2/5
Helpful Tips
You can simplify before multiplying by canceling common factors across numerators and denominators.
Always simplify the final answer if you can!
