Lesson 8: Order of Operations

The order of operations tells us the correct sequence to solve math expressions. If we don't follow the order, we can get the wrong answer!

Use the PEMDAS Rule

Examples

2 + 3 × 4 = 14 (multiply first!)
(2 + 3) × 4 = 20 (parentheses first!)
8 + 6 ÷ 3 = 10 (divide first!)

Where You Use It

Order of operations is important any time more than one math operation is involved. It helps you solve problems step-by-step, just like a calculator does!
