Home Educators Discounts
Places you can get discounts because you’re a teacher!
In this article, I will show you how to get some educator discounts.
As the teacher of your children, you are a homeschooling teacher; you are too, entitled to the same discounts that other private tutors and public school teachers receive.
If you are a local business in Alabama that offers discounts to homeschool teachers, please send us an email and we’ll add you to the list. Please include your website link and the discount provided.
Don’t Sweat It!
If you don’t like to ask for discounts, don’t sweat it! You are a real teacher! You 100% deserve the same discounts that other public school teachers, tutors, scout leaders, coaches, and others involved in educating students.
A lot of businesses already have a discount in line for teachers, etc. So, you’re not asking them to create something just for you. They’re used to giving these discounts to educators of all kinds. Plus, the IRS offers these businesses tax breaks and such for contributing to educators.
What Businesses Should You Ask?
You can ask any of the stores below and more:
- Office Supply
- Science Stores
- Arts & Crafts
- Furniture Stores (student desks & chairs)
- Bookstores
- Catalog Suppliers of all kinds of things
- Craft Supply Stores
- General Merchandise
- Hardware Stores (Creating bookshelves for your books!)
- Museums
- Computer Stores (computer hardware and software for students & teachers)
- Music Stores
- Sporting goods
Who Should I Ask For a Discount?
I would suggest asking before you start shopping unless you still want to buy without a discount. But, it would be best to ask for the general manager or the salesperson in charge. You can ask them if they give educators discount. Do NOT tell them you’re a homeschool teacher, just yet. Let them answer you about whether or not they do offer discounts. If they say yes, go ahead and tell them you’re a homeschool teacher (you don’t need to give too much information). You would like to apply for an educator’s discount. You will be purchasing a lot of material for the next year, and many to follow.
What Will They Want From Me?
You can expect to offer any of the following pieces of ID/Proof.
- Have an ID card that “proves” you are a teacher.
- Have a written letter/statement (On schools letterhead) authorizing you to make purchases.
- Some may even ask for your ID/Drivers License, too.
They may want to make a copy of these. A business will do this to have a copy on file and to create an account for you. You should receive a lovely card that you can use to make purchases to receive a discount.
